1962
to
1984.

On return from our honeymoon we returned to our new house in Cheadle Hulme Stockport. 1962. Later that year I bought Honda Motor Scooter our first mechanised transport. Photos of all our Cars { 36 of them} are on our Photo Album Site. 1964. We bought our first Car a Morris Traveller Estate.

1964. December we sold our house in Ch. Hulme, I resigned from the Coop and we bought a Butchery Business with living accommodation in Hollingworth Nr Hyde Cheshire.

1964 - 1973. The Butchery Business gave us a good living, but in 1972 / 3 this was steadily getting worse due to a combination of rising prices { with Decimalisation } and the fact that 3 of the factories in the village closed putting 100’s of of work. We closed the shop in 1973 and concentrated on a Taxi Business I had started in 1972.

1972 / 1973. Started off with 1 car in 1972, had bought 3 more with in 12 months and had 3 owner drivers working at week-ends.

1975. Decided on a complete change and went into the Life Insurance Industry working for a Brokerage in Northampton.

1976. I started my own Insurance Brokerage, we still lived in Hollingworth and the old shop was converted into an Insurance Office / Building Society Agency. I also that year became a member of the Manchester Branch of the LIA the ‘ Life Insurance Association ‘
1976. I also became a Mason joining Manchester Ulster Lodge.

1979. I was elected Chairman of Manchester Branch. also carried on to do a 2nd year, as the Chairman Elect was unable to take over.

1984. Became a member of MDRT the Million Dollar Round Table. An American Insurance Organisation, in 1984 the qualifying figure to become a member was £ 3 Million in sales in a 12 month period - but as we used to say
‘ Not to just one Guy ‘ I stayed a member for 4 years, to when the qualifying figure had reached £ 5 Million, and then decided I was chasing about to much - I had become a person who was living to work - So I went back to being a person who worked to live - and just did enough business as I wanted to do, and no more.
